I have an 06 Tj and almost every time I hit a bump wether I am going straight or turning it will make a clanging noise like metal to metal. I tried to move my shocks and steering a little bit to see if it was loose but nothing. I am stumped.

There are lots of things to check.. control arm bushings (upper and lower), ball joints (upper and lower), shock bushings (usually lower on front), lug nuts, hub unit bearings, and of course the tie rods etc, but you said you checked them. Get someone to get in the vehicle with it running, and cycle the steering left to right back and forth and inspect all of those parts for slack.

Believe it or not I get the same thing on my JK. Mine sounds like a drive train issue.

check the u-joints on the axle shafts, make sure you didn't loose a cap.

Which one are you referring to Sarge?

Also it only does this when it feels like it. I am going to jack it up this time and check it out when the weight of the vehicle is not on the shocks and everything.

I had a similar noise/location and it ended up being rear control arm bushings.

Axle shaft, is the thing in the axle tube wich has a u-joint attached to it with an outer axle shaft that runs through the hub giving you power and ability to turn your jeep. If you loose a u-joint cap it can make the sound also. It is the round thing between the ball joints that goes into the axle tube.

Oh yeah, axle shaft u-joints could be a culprit as well!

The noise is definitely coming from the right front tire it is very distinct

Sgt. you are talking about right there where the axle connects to the rotor. Right?

This is what mine looked like when it used to spit ujoint caps.

You can re-pack and cap it. To eliminate them popping off again tack weld some washers on top of the caps. Be short with the weld time as it will heat up and kill the packing grease.

I am pretty sure that I have found my problem. The bushing on the lower part of my right front shock is split and falling apart. I am assuming that's my problem, I hope. I have another shock on the way so I will see.

You could have just replaced that bushing.. but yes, that will definitely make a clunk if that bushing is bad.

Well I also noticed that at the base of all my shocks where the shock piston rod connects to the bottom part of the shock is rusted at the welds, so it's only a matter of time or a good jolt before they snap. The shocks are Pro Comp Mx-6 series. Not sure if I should get another brand or stick with Pro Comp.

They got lifetime warranty on defective workmanship I would call the store closest to you and ask about it. They should not be rusting, I am running them and love the adjustability of em way better than a non-adjustable.
