I had this posted on the other site and TJO, decided to copy it over here... the dates in the posts do not reflect when the work was done, it is the date when I originally posted it on TJO...

you can also view my garage page here: My Garage (http://newforum.tx4wd.org/garage.php?do=user_garage_view&id=3)

I don't really have a lot of actual work in progress pictures up until now, but I can give you a little timeline with pics and how my Jeep has progressed to where it is now, and where I plan to go with it...

Over the past 10 years I've just basically upgraded a little at a time due to money/time restrictions...

I bought it brand new from Ron Carter back in August 2001
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Stuff/new1_aug21_01.jpg

About 2 months later, I got some used (almost bald) 32" Mud Country tires from Leo, and mounted them on the factory rims... then I threw on a 3" body lift.. I did manage to win "Most Mud" at the 1st annual Wheelers 4 Wishes Show at San Jacinto Mall in December 2001... This is the best pic I have online at the moment...
http://www.wheelers4wishes.org/new/Wheelers%204%20Wishes%202001/slides/img020.jpg

Then for Christmas 2001, I got some 33" Thornbirds and some 15x10 chrome wheels... The Thornbirds LOOK awesome, and perform pretty well, but on the road the SUCK!! they scallop really bad, and you cannot keep them balanced...

This is from the 2002 W4W Show

After the ThornTURDS wore out finally, I bought some Pro-Comp Mud Terrains used, and added some 2" coil springs to lift a little more...

Went through 2 sets of ProComps, then bought 33" BFG MT's.. and painted the fenders and roll cage green...

After several years running that setup with 33's.. Chris (uppidycon) upgraded to his 6" long arm lift, and gave me the springs and control arms from his 4" ProComp short arm lift... I replaced all the bushings, and bought new shocks and a new adjustable track bar and installed the lift, and 36" Iroks...

installed the 4" lift and 36's, but still had factory 3.73 gears... was just barely OK on the street, but after 1 trip to Gilmer, I decided it wasn't gonna cut it... had to use the skinny pedal way to much to get the tires turning... so I installed 4.88's... took a couple weekends to get it knocked out, but got it done!

here's the link to the entire Gear Install Album --> http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Gear%20Install/

OK.. so after installing the gears, I made a few trips, and they made a world of difference!! I can cruise the hwy at 70 again... use the cruise control... LOL... Off road I'm able to actually CRAWL up stuff, instead of gassing it...

This past June (2010) we made a trip to Gilmer... and I broke my first axle... driver's side rear... and it was because of a bounce... had I let off the gas in time, it probably wouldn't have happened...

Now I'm currently starting to build stuff for the Jeep... I built a front bumper and mounted a winch on it... installed Alloy shafts in the rear... and will soon start adding to my Roll cage.. Here's what I got so far... I think I'll just continue to add pics to this album as I work... http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Stuff/Build%20Progress/

Tore down the rear end this weekend to finally install my passenger side alloy shaft... I only replaced the drivers side cuz that's the one that was messed up and I need to get it inspected... Anyway, I busted the cover off and I still have metal flakes from when I broke the shaft... is this normal? how long will it take to flush them all out? or is it coming from something else? i pulled the carrier and both shafts, inspected everything really good, and nothing looks like it's grinding or anything.. I sprayed the tubes out with brake cleaner and pushed some rags through to get them clean... sprayed the carrier bearings with cleaner and blew them out really good with air... noticed when I installed the driver shaft the outer seal got cut somehow.. so I had to put some RTV on it, hopefully it will seal.. it was leaking out into my drums...

Also, I do not like the design of the flange bolts on the new axles... they screw in from the back side, instead of pressing in... so you have to locktite them in really good, or when you go to put on the lug nuts they loosen up...

here are a few pics from this weekend...

Ok after having Chris' old Rubicon rocker guards sitting in my garage for several years, I finally installed them! If anyone wants details on the install I can do a write up on it... Pretty simple... Even easier if your TJ is 03 or newer because they already have half of the holes that you need to install...

Well, I bit the bullet today and ordered a Poison Spyder A-pillar mount for the cage.. didn't feel like cuttin up the dash.. plus save tubing..

nothing to do today at work, so I'm cutting some of the straight pieces...

a 1.75" hoggan cutter in the mill worked great for notching.. haven't welded it in place yet.. but it's a nice snug fit...

OK got under the rear of the Jeep Friday afternoon to change out the upper control arms that were in bad shape.. here's what they look like.. I also changed the lower control arm bushings while I was under there.. had some new ones sitting in my garage and these definitely needed it.. My Jeep rides a lot better now.. Just need to get the body mount issues fixed while I'm working on the cage...

Yesterday, I brought my Jeep to my buddy's house and we bent up some tube and welded in some extra support for my roll cage. Still have some more to do, but we are probably going to wait until it cools off some, and/or he gets his shop opened up. It was a hot SOB out there!

OK, got bored the other day and decided to throw some primer on the extra bars.. Still gotta wait a little while before we can finish up the rest of it.. too dang hot right now... So I primed the bars and welds so they don't rust before we get to finish up..

Then today, I'm at work, and decided to modify my sound bar to work with the new bars in the cage.. pretty easy mod..

Well, I remembered the other day, that I just installed a new oil pan, and needed to protect it.... so I ordered up the AEV Nth Degree Oil Pan Skid (http://www.quadratec.com/products/12022_904_07.htm).. It came in, and I got some time this evening to install it. It went very smooth.. if I didn't have my 18 month old son stealin bolts and crawlin around all over me while I was tryin to install it, it would have taken less than an hour. it bolts up to 2 bolts on the bell housing, and there are 2 unused tapped holes in the engine block just above the oil pan that the top part bolts to... It seem very stout, and should keep me from destroying my new oil pan!

I think (hope) that I might have finally dug deep enough to find the death wobble culprit!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=excOMcjwAoc&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Passenger side lower ball joint... Should it be that loose? It felt tight until I got the knuckle off of it...

Driver side is loose also, but not quite as loose. The new ball joint feels really tight and solid...

Also my driver side unit bearings were pretty loose...

Needless to day, all of its getting replaced before wftw!

Almost got it back together today..

New rotors, hubs, ball joints..

New currie steering vs. stock!

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Stuff/Build%20Progress/front%20end%20rebuild/986ab624.jpg

Just gotta hook up the stabilizer and put my tires on and do an alignment..
http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Stuff/Build%20Progress/front%20end%20rebuild/2498218a.jpg

For anyone that needs to change the lower ball joints, if the ones you buy come with a grease fitting like this one, it won't work.. The axle shaft u-joint hits the fitting... I searched all the hardware stores and auto part stores lookin for a "plug" style grease fitting to put in there, with no luck.. The guy at oreilly said he's never heard of anyone having that problem before.. What I ended up doing was making plugs for them.. The threads on the fitting were 1/4"-28 so I searched for a bolt that thread pitch, and found that the driveshaft u-joint strap bolts are the correct pitch, I had some old ones in my toolbox so I cut them down and used them as plugs!

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Stuff/Build%20Progress/front%20end%20rebuild/1ea32fbd.jpg

Also found out that renting the ball joint removal tool from the auto parts store was a life saver!!! I bent a couple regular c-clamps before I finally gave in!

Also finally replaced my shifter boot... maybe it will keep the heat down now... Other small fixes include: center console latch (was broken and didn't latch, replaced with new), air/heater blower motor switch, and working on installing a fuse block and switches for current 12v accessories, and making room for expansion for offroad lights and such.

You have to pull the old one apart and remove the lock cylinder and install it in the new one... if your lock cylinder is still good... I'm not sure where you can buy the cylinder if it's bad...

EDIT: Here's the lock cylinder if you need it.. http://www.quadratec.com/products/55216_211.htm

Saw these straps at the beach run.. So the wife and I decided to give it a shot to make some... Found 2 different ways to make them, so we tried both.. I like the one that wraps around and back to itself better for my application, the other style would fit better for someone with roll bar padding still on the bars...

ARB install.

Replacing my mini spool in the rear with an ARB. Wanted the flexibility for on road driving. Also bought the HD air compressor so I can mount a tank and use it for airing up tires, air horn, etc.

Here's my compressor mount. Saw it online (sold by Sinister Fabworks) and I took some measurements and drew it up in Autodesk inventor and sent it to Leo Brown at LCJ Designs and he cut it out for me on his CNC plasma table. Makes a nice clean install. Bolts up to the brake master cylinder mounting bolts.

Forgot to update this thread.. after Arkansas, I had a slice on one of my "good" Iroks in the sidewall. So I was looking around for new tires. I came across a good deal on these 37" Goodyear MTR's on 15 x 10 aluminum M/T wheels. 2 are new, and other 3 have over 50% tread left. $800 for all 5, can't beat it! I just had to change the valve stems, and bust the outer bead and clean the rim on a couple of them because they were leaking.

OK, apparently I didn't do much since I last updated this. I only went on 1 wheeling trip in 2013, which was in April, to Hot Springs. That trip took it's toll on my Jeep, so I spent the rest of the year fixing odds and ends. Went to DSO in January 2014 and damaged my steering box and a lower ball joint. Then 4 Wheelin 4 Warriors in February 2014 took out my steering pump. Replaced my steering pump, steering box, and installed an inline filter. But my steering pump still isn't working right. The box that I put on is an old one that has been drilled and tapped for hydro assist, I'm not sure if it's any good. So I have a brand new replacement from Autozone (warranty) to install and see if that helps.

I bought some Currie adjustable control arms, upper and lower, from Teresa and installed them, that should take care of my issues with ripping stock uppers in half or bending them into pretzel shapes. BUT... it didn't stop this from happening!! 4th of July in Hot Springs...

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Stuff/Superlift%20July%202014/6D6E28E0-6B6A-4A62-95BB-C86CF0DCACE0_zpsbkzgtoub.jpg

Have no fear! Jonathan with AAE to the rescue again. He welded it back in place and I was back on the trails in about an hour.

http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j88/gpinjason/Jeep%20Stuff/Superlift%20July%202014/C3A72057-7C97-466F-83BB-2E8960D69ED6_zpsardb1kux.jpg

So I have ordered replacement control arm brackets. Just need to get the old ones cut off and new ones welded on... Got them from Artec. 1/4" plate. Should be way stronger than factory. I also Bent up another factory belly pan, so I'm in the process of designing and fabricating a 1/4" plate Tummy Tuck skid plate. I have a 3" body lift, so I should be able to shove the t-case up a couple inches to gain some more clearance under the belly. Also get rid of the flimsy factory skid.
