I've noticed there's been quite a few people posting on the chat window some little bits they did to add to their trucks. So, I thought I'd make a thread so we can see some damn pictures! Post up the little things you did for your truck today and show us what you spent your paycheck on instead of something useful! Did you install a new set of gauges, wire in some lights, do some painting, welding, or cleaning? Take a picture and let us know!

Today I saw seafoam on the clearance counter at O'Reilly's so I thought I'd give it a shot and added a bottle to my fuel and oil system to clean it out. Also, I did some touchups on the air intake I added to my X5 the other day, and replaced the cabin filter. Check it out.

boring, I wired up Angela's Jeep with a set of spot lights on the windshield and replaces the factory lights with some delta lights and wired em in for daytime running lamps. Then added the last piece to the wifes bumper, cleaned the garage and drank some beers with Brian. I aint got no pics I was busy working! :beer

no pictures. i guess i should go take some. got the mechanical pressure gauges - boost and oil pressure installed and plumbed in my 93 f250. i went with nameless black aluminum AN fittings and teflon stainless hose. i killed one fitting before i realized they skipped the step of cutting 1/8-1/16 of the steel braiding back before trying to thread the fitting together. should get the electric stuff (back lights, phyro, coolant temp) hooked up this week-weekend.

o yea used a superduty windshield quad gauge mount and made it work in the 80-97 truck.

Once upon a time I went on a run up in Hot Springs. Somebody brought along a big ol' cowbell on a chain. If you pulled out your winch cable to pull yourself or accepted a tow strap to pull your rig.....you got to wear the cowbell on your front bumper. Clanging and clanging until the next rig had to use a recovery device.....it was all fun and pretty cool amongst friends. Plenty of talking and taunting on the CB between cowbell swaps.

the shiny part was from the slip yoke eliminator kit... Hasn't been installed too long..

Not sure why it started leaking.. my u-joint at the rear diff pinion was loose (straps didn't tighten down on the caps all the way) so I had a vibration, it caused the pinion nut to loosen up, so maybe that vibration caused the leak? I don't know... :think

TEXAS MUDBUS
06-19-2012, 11:36 AM
Id think most damage from any of that vibration would e closer to the source, by the yoke and not at your transfer case. It sounds weird that it would cause the case seals to leak at the split. Maybe it was just weak and that was it's final day. Who knows... It's fixed now, right? Drive on!

I picked up a set of 17" wheels off craigslist for $200 the other day. Today I got my X5 back from the shop with my new mud terrains on it. 245/70/10 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs. At just under 31" tall and 10" wide they surprisingly fit in the wells without rubbing. The E rated 3000# load capacity and 80psi max will make them great for towing, too.

I took em out for some mud holes and the tread worked great! I was able to crawl through all the sloppy stuff without too much wheelspin or momentum. They're hill climbing traction is also pretty surprising.

I finally found a plenum to start my snorkel build. I've been going back and forth to O'Reilly's ordering a bunch of Spectre parts to make a modular snorkel. So far it's looking like it'll have to come out the front corner of the left fender.

The plenum looks great and matches up to the carb perfectly. Once I finish the mockup, I'll seal it down with some good, red silicone. My finger shows where I'm planing to route the rest of it to the outside.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/TheLegendaryFox/MUDBUS/P7150029.jpg

That little notch will put the tube coming out of the fender here, where my finger is. I'm thinking about riding the hoodline all the way to the A pillar, then coming up and ending at the roofline like a typical snorkel.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/TheLegendaryFox/MUDBUS/P7150033.jpg

I was considering running the snorkel to the interior thru the heater core like how I have the valvetrain breather hose, but I'm still not sure if that's the route I want to go. It would involve less material, and provide a secure mounting point for the filter to prevent theft, but it looks tricky.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/TheLegendaryFox/MUDBUS/P7150040.jpg

The tan square near the bottom left of this picture is where the firewall opening dumps into the cabin. For now, I have the valvetrain vent routed thru a deleted a/c vent, and up the a pillar and across the sun visors. It's extra tubing until I decide where I want to put it after a new dash. If I ran the snorkel inside like I wanted, it would run similar to this, but come out the dash between the glass and the dash which would require cutting of a new dash, and then up the a pillar. This would keep it more out of the passengers' way.
http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c247/TheLegendaryFox/MUDBUS/P7150042.jpg

Also, here is the 2" PSC ram I have. I have some mounting tabs in the garage ready to be drilled and prepped for welding, but I'm saving that for when I get it into a shop. There's no need for it just yet.

Adam, those little china bikes are a blast to play around with. Word from the wise, 1 is never enough, and do your PMCS before every time you ride it. They'll vibrate so much the damn nuts and bolts will back out whenever they want. I may have some extra parts lying around from my last 3 pocketbikes I had ... unless I gave it away already.

Sarge, you mean the air vents for the a/c? That's a lot of cutting and drilling just to get it to come out of the body. I mulled it over for a while and I think I'm gonna route it inside thru the core like the valvetrain vent for security. I'd hate to come out to the parking lot on a rainy day to find out my $50 filter had been stolen.

I installed a Garvin wilderness roofrack. This was suppose to be a 3 hr install...man were they way off! When installing this rack you have to be very precise with the holes you drill. If you are off with your holes, you more or less ruin the entire install. Everything comes in unassembled and this is what took the most time. Prep for the install:

923

Once unpacked, I assembled the rack top with the floor posts and the license plate bracket to the driver side rear support arm:

924

I started the install by removing the brake light assemblies, and license plate bracket:

925
926

Then the fun part of masking of and marking my drill holes followed:
NOTE: I can't stress enough that these holes have to be precise. Everything ties into the rear body seam for strengthened support. If your marks are off you will have brackets that will not fit.
I also repaired the majority of the dent left from Hidden Falls since I was there

927

Holes drilled, you can install the rear supports, then the front supports:

928

With all supports installed, install the rack and floor posts. If you don't have help to lift it into place you can assemble just the rack and leave the floor posts for the last step. This cuts weight. But, I have kids so they were put to work!

929

One of the features of this rack that I will enjoy is the tilt. It allows me to drop the soft top with out removing anything. Garvin recommends 2 adults for this but I found it very easy by myself. Once its lifted back it balances out allowing you to install the tilt brackets.

930

I will be purchasing the wind deflector as it gets noisy at 55 mph or greater. Also, I will be mounting my hi-lift to the side as well as the ax and shovel. Big thank you goes to my co-worker who just traded his '09 for a Subaru and giving me this rack for free NIB. Thanks SSgt Parker! I'll post more as I drive with it on. Laterz

Yeah, let me know if you find the cover! I would like to cover it up since it's all 12v HOT terminals under there.. I've searched google with no luck finding just a cover.. last resort if I couldn't make something was to buy another fuse block to get the cover... I usually do motor mounts and transmission mounts at the same time. If the powertrain sits without the trans mounts for too long, sometimes the motor mounts get wallowed out. Do you have it supported? I remember doing the 350-700R4-241 install on my old 89 burban. It's pretty fun.

I usually do motor mounts and transmission mounts at the same time. If the powertrain sits without the trans mounts for too long, sometimes the motor mounts get wallowed out. Do you have it supported? I remember doing the 350-700R4-241 install on my old 89 burban. It's pretty fun.

Yes I supported everything, but you will see the cause of my non fitment issues with it in my build thread.

Yesterday my husband and I finished removing excess "stuff" out of the jeep like the heater, wiper motor and sun visors. I also wiped out the inside of the front differential and bought my switches a spare starter button and a battery switch. 1268

Got the new track bar installed.. New rear bumper and hitch.. And got some new to me 37" MTRs to throw on for safe on road driving since the Iroks are almost at the end of their life.

Also got a new-used gas tank and skid to replace mine that sits 2" higher than it did before Hot Springs. LOL

I finally fixed that damned wobbly steering column and put some red Locktite on the bolts. Amazingly, after nearly a year of sitting in the driveway it fired right up after some priming of the carb! Big block Chevy's will run on such poor conditions, I love em.
