Ok so my new TJ has 37" M/T Baja tires and 4.88 gears. Obviously my speedo is gonna be wayyy off now. Been looking at options for correcting it and looks like there are a couple options:

1) Have dealer recalibrate for about $125
2) Purchase Superlift TruSpeed unit for about $250
3) By speedo gear for t-case for $39.99 from Quadratec. Only problem is they have tire size that jumps from 36" to 38" and claim they don't have an option for me. Personally I think the chat guy just didn't know crap. I bet it is physical measurement of tire and not the side wall reading.

Any of you guys done any of the above with any luck? I've seen some gripes about option 1 still not turning out right.

Sounds like wIth the options listed that the truspeed is the way to go. Most likelihood of working right and if tires change later you can redo the calibration.

REGEAR IT. Your tires are probably only 35" It takes about 25 minutes. It will be with in a mile or two of exact and they is close enough. I bought my last gear from ebay for about $25. Figure out how many teeth you need and get it.

I just bought a speedo gear for mine with 4.88's and 36's.. I'll let you know how close it is with gps after I get it back together

Yeah I went ahead and ordered the gear for mine as well. Quadratec had the part, just the chat help moron didn't know which one it was evidently. I ordered the 36 tooth so hope that was right based on information I got from another site with a higher price for the part.

As far as tires go, I measured them and they are physically measuring just under 37" surprisingly. I just hope it gets me close.

Yeah I'm between sizes on their chart...I have true 37" tires so it was either the 36 or 38 and another site I found gave the part # 36 for my setup. Might have needed a 37 even, we'll just have to see. :)

36 tooth gear corrected my MPH as far as speedo is concerned. Took the wife's Tom Tom GPS unit and she said it shows 2MPH difference on her car and my Jeep is doing the same thing so I'm confident mine is close now.

Cool! Hope mine is close... Should be better than 12mph difference at least! Lol
