if I did that I would buy the smittybuilt xrc8 so I can put the synthetic cable on the bronco and put my steel cable on the trailer

Technically you don't NEED an 8k winch for the trailer, unless your tires are flat and axles locked up, a 3-4k winch should pull a Jeep (or similar rig) onto a trailer, assuming it has ramps or tilts.

I could be wrong though... I have a 3500 lb harbor freight winch sitting in my garage that I've thought about mounting to the trailer to try out... Maybe I need to give a shot...

the only reason I was thinking bout the xrc8 is because you can get it with synthetic cable for $299 plus tax whereas you buy synthetic cable for $185 plus you still have to buy the hawse fairlead so basically for $100 more you can have get another winch, but yes I think a 3500 should be plenty especially if you use a snatch block

btw I went ahead and got the 4 connector wire cause I didn't feel like spending $100 on 7 conductor wire, I will add more wire later

Also keep an eye out in pawn shops for a winch as well - they do turn up and you can argue with them since they techically dont know if they work or not - a buddy of mine picked up a Warn 8271 for 200 bucks and it was in working order
