I have to agree with some strong points here, experienced in certain parks, most recovery capable rig, common sense, and trust factor with new or even experienced drivers. someone put they wouldn't follow if they didnt portay the experience they say they have, absolutely good adivice! ,what ABSOLUTE qualifications do they need, experience, rig, common sense, first aid training cb/ham radio recovery traing?also do we do this at state level and make up a trail guide standard and certification?which would be cool so out of town chapters had a state directory of guides for certain parks?

I think Trail Guides need to specialize in one or two parks, and REALLY know EVERYTHING about that park, and more than just the trail system, it's like reading a street map it'll get you through town but you won't know your way around like the locals do.

Not so much actual mapping ,but maybe a gps marker trip so you know ahead of time about a certain obstacle or what have you coming up.the guide would have to be competent in that park on that trail before hand

Good points by all. This is what we are trying to achieve I have been on trails following guys that did not know jack and no way I would let them spot me and trust is a huge issue when you get on a trail. Thats why we are trying to create a verified system of trail guides state wide. I dont have time do it this week. Next week I will post up a big list item by item of requirements and what optional items we would like to see. Then everyone can discuss it and we can add or subtract from that. I should of done it sooner, but I think this is something that would be great for the organization. I just haven't had the time lately to commit to getting it done. So I will make a commitment to getting it done next week or at least get a big chunk of it posted up. Thanks to all of you that have contributed to the conversation!
