This is Maverick, he is almost a yr. old. We have had him neutered and updated on all shots and bloodwork. No health issues at all. He loves other dogs and would be a great companion dog for another dog. He actually would prefer to have either a person or dog home with him during the day. He loves his big wire kennel with blanket and pillow. He is a Pit mix. Please network this one.

As you can see from the background in the picture, he did spend some time at the pound, but they put a 10 day sentence on him and he was set to be put down on Valentine's day. Once they found out, the finders of this lost dog went back and retrieved him!!! He is staying at a friend of my mother's as a foster home with their old sheep dog and yellow lab. (the yellow lab was so jealous of the kennel that was given to Maverick, that the lab pushes his way in when the door is open and sleeps with Maverick, and everyone’s happy).

Maverick did try one home placement, but it was a single man who worked long hours and had no other pets, so it just didn’t work out.

This Maverick is no loner, he’s a lover, he thrives on companionship and plays with every dog he meets. He is even a little reminder of Petey from the little Rascals.

I will pass on my mother's email address to anyone seriously interested in giving this little guy a permanent home!!!

We are very pleased to be able to report that Maverick has a new forever home.
Earlier in the week, his foster family (Tonia) had left one of the flyers with Dr. Smith at The Clay Road Animal Clinic and apparently they displayed it in a prominent position.
Late on Wednesday afternoon, his foster family (John) got a phone call from lady who had seen and picked up the flyer and was VERY interested in Maverick. Her husband had wanted a dog that looked like Maverick for sometime and had already fallen for him just by seeing the flyer.
They had recently had their Golden retriever put to sleep and their remaining dog,Lucy, a Chocolate Lab/Pit Bull mix(?) was lonely.
Anyway, they came to meet Maverick on Wednesday evening and wanted to take him there and then.
They understood that we wanted to keep him one more day so we took him to his new forever home yesterday, Thursday, evening.
If we could have made up a checklist for our wishes for Maverick's new family these people would pretty much have checked every box.
They are an older couple(like us) but not old.
They are both retired, although she works part time.
Their adult son and his friend live with them.
There is somebody at home 24 hours a day.
They have another slightly older dog and are definitely "doggie" people.
They have a large back yard.
They don't live too far away- just off Eldridge.
They use "our" vet, Dr. Smith.
We know it will take Maverick a little bit of time to adjust to his new surroundings but as he is so smart we are hoping that this will not take long.
We plan on waiting a few days before phoning to find out how he is doing.
We are both quite emotional and a liitle apprehensive(worried) at the moment and if you can detect some tears between the lines-- they are there !
It's pretty quiet around here now but this liitle guy left such a large paw print on both of our hearts we have
NOT said goodbye to him we have said "until our next hello."
Once his new family are confident that he has settled in we have been invited to stop by and see him and we will certainly be taking them up on that invitation.
Thank you both for your help and support-- we are so happy to have saved Maverick's life, to have helped him to develop and to be able to report that Maverick's tail has a happy ending !!
