Winch Help...
I'm looking into buying a winch for my rig. I haven't needed one in the past but I live out on 60 acres and am finding more uses (maybe it's excuses) for one, I keep finding myself saying, "If I had a winch I could move (fill in the blank)." However I don't know which one I should get. I've done a lot of searching on different JK forums and there are mixed reviews on every winch out there it seems. So here I am scratching my head and throwing out the question, which winch is recommended for someone who would hardly ever use a winch (on a trail) but who would use it probably about once or twice a month out on some property to help move things? Should I go with something like Smittybilt or should I hold out for a while longer and just invest in a Warn?

Re: Winch Help...
Whichever one will pull your vehicle weight X2. If you really aren't worried about pulling yourself out just get a cheap winch and mount it to work on a reese hitch.

Winch Help...
If you won't be using it for heavy load too often, I would go cheap with Harbor Freight or Smittybilt... The HF winch has an extended warranty you can buy and they will replace it if anything happens to it.. You can get a coupon and pick up the 12,000 lb for $300

Jk 23, call the guys at the forth worth 4wp (4 wheel parts) and tell them your dfw-tx4wd. Get the 8k smittybuolt with wench plate and a wench and recovery bag. At 8k with a snatch block you have double line strenght to 16k. I love my smitty built and get to use it more around the house than I do wheeling. I had to pull the bed off my tow rig to get to fuel pump cus I had full tank of fuel. Much faster than dropping tank. You can see the block and tree saver hang abouve the truck. And last week we used it a buddies house runnning barb wire fence. Never needed more thatn it would do and I almost always run with a block and tree saver

Re: Winch Help...
What's the discount if you mind sharing? I personally haven't found anything at 4wp parts I couldn't find cheaper else where.

I had a 12k harbor freight winch, and it did great. Although I have heard of them not doing well if the relay box got wet. I never had issues with mine and had it fully submerged a few times. +1 for wireless remote operation.

Thanks for the info. It looks and sounds like you use yours about the same way I would use mine. In the 3 years that I've done wheeling I've never needed to be winched out yet (knock on wood) but I would like one in case I have to, but mostly I want a winch for farm use.
