Boliver Island / McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge 5/10/14
There's a lot going on on May, but I wanted to get a day-run on the calendar for those who may not be able to make weekend runs, and/or those perhaps newer to the hobby. It looks like this day falls in between several other events, so I'm hoping this is good for many.
For those in the NW area, we'll meet at Gander Mountain at the corner of Hwy 6 and 290 at 7:30. At 8:00am, the caravan will leave for High Island.
For those not wanting to meet in the NW area, we all will convene at the Exxon station / Gulfway Grill, on 124, in High Island (about 1 mile from the beach) between 9:30 and 10:00
At 10:00 sharp, we'll head to the beach then turn east. We'll follow the beach line roughly 24 miles - as far as we're able to navigate.
Once we get as far as we can, we can hang out a bit for lunch, then turn back when the mood hits us. I figure we can be back to civilization roughly 4:00 or 5:00, then head on back home.
While this is a beach run, there will be a few minor obstacles - remnants from Ike and Katrina, so bring your basic recovery gear just in case. Also note that this area IS rather remote, so be sure to use the restroom when we meet at High Island.
For the photographers in the group, this area is a well known bird sanctuary - there should be LOTS of photo opps.
