My personal favorite defense gun has always been a Beretta Jetfire in
22 short. Over all the years I've been hiking I never leave without it
in my pocket.
Of course, we all know the first rule when hiking in wilderness areas
is to use the "Buddy System". (For those of you who may be unfamiliar
with this concept, it means that you NEVER hike alone, you bring a
friend or companion, or even an in-law, so that if anything happens
there is someone to go get help.)
I remember on one occasion hiking with my brother-in-law.
Out of nowhere came this huge brown bear and she was mad! We
must have been too near to her cubs. Anyway, if I had not had my
little Jetfire, I'd surely not be here today!
Just one quick shot to my brother-in-law's knee cap and I was able to escape by just walking
away at a brisk pace.
The Beretta Jetfire is one of the best pistols in my safe.

^ROFL!!!!
The expendable family member. I love it. I need to get my hands on a Judge... that would be a sweet addition to my household!

I love the Judge. I also know I do not need to run faster than a bear. Just faster than my buddy.

figured i'd post results:
got a RRA lower, cheap parts kit
palamino state armory complete upper. 16" chrome lined mid length barrel
got a light and flip up sites. 1k rounds of tula ammo.
just put 200 rounds through it on the family property. one case got stuck on the second mag. then all fine after that. it's fun. but i can't use ghost ring sites. so i'm saving for an eotech.
my fiance likes it but hates the sites too.

i need to get somethign that is small enough to get in the gas tube. do i actually have a use for pipe cleaners? i clean the rest of it every time i get home after shooting.
and i really want a different trigger. the one i've got i don't like. maybe i'm just used to nicer ones but i really don't like what i've got. $200 just seems like a lot for a few pieces of well made steel.

Yes you need the pipe cleaners to reach all the way down in the gas tube to get the carbon out. The gas tube is the most neglected part of the AR platform that is rarely cleaned and is a main factor of causing the rifle to jam. The gas tube is a major part of what makes the AR cycle or function. We would take the complete upper minus the hand guards and dunk them in a vat of whatever it is the military uses so the entire gas tube system would get a good soaking and break down the carbon. Never use your firing pin to clean your bolt, that's bad juju! All the military triggers have a 2 stage trigger that most people that have not been in the military don't like, there is a way to manipulate the trigger for a lighter pull for accuracy work. However, they do make a single stage trigger for it. $200 is money well spent on a trigger assy and allows your rifle to be more precise.

Try to get yourself some used dental picks from the dentist. These picks will get the carbon deposits off from the firing pin, bolt carrier assbl'y, and the star in the upper frame. Simple green/water solution at 1:15 ratio is what we soak everything in to break up the carbon because it is biodegradable. If you do soak make sure to rinse thoroughly and lubricate very well after the fact.
