    Project: TOYMINATOR

Hey guys, reposting my build thread here on the new forum since the old one has been shut down.

I picked up this bone stock 85 back in October 08 for my next build...

Certainly nothing special, but fast forward 3 years later with a few modifications...

One ton axles, dual cases, rear driveline disconnect, internal cage, full hydro steering, recentered H1 wheels, 39.5 IROKS, Marlin Trail Flex suspension modified for full size axles, gate shifter, cut and rolled fenders to clear the tires, added fuel cell and moved factory fuel door to driver side, front and rear bumpers, 9.5k WARN PowerPlant winch, snorkel, custom half top, suspension seats, 5 point harnesses, raptor lined floor pan, diamond plate aluminum interior panels and repainted with factory replicated graphics. Not to mention all the minor things that has been done to it. And the show stopper...the driver side rock slider is retractable. Works off it's own hydraulic system with pump and 2 rams to make it go up and down to assist the driver to get in.

    Here's what we got...

Fixing to stick a fresh motor in her. Will post pics of the motor install.

When I bought my 4Runner back a few years ago the motor seemed pretty tired. Was told that it had been recently rebuilt but didn't have too much faith in that being accurate. I figured though that I would just run it till it wouldn't run any more and deal with it when that happened. Well, it decided to give it up a few weeks ago!

It was pretty catastrophic. Lost compression and the motor was spewing oil right out the top of it like an oil rig that had just struck oil.

Pulled it apart and we found this...

A nice size crack in the piston.

And some nice scars on the cylinder wall.

So, out it come for a rebuild.

After putting a dent in my wallet, it went back in today...slightly hopped up.

Bored 40 over, LCE Torquer cam, Rock Ripper header.

Cranked up on the first try!

Got a little tuning left to do on it. Got to drive it down the road though before the rain shut us down today and man what a difference a fresh motor makes!

Amazing how a little Simple Green can shine up an engine bay. Just gotta slap the hood back on her and she's ready to go!
