    Brake question...

OK, I just recently replaced the pads and rotors on the front of my Jeep. I might have 500 miles on the new stuff, and it's making a grinding sound. It doesn't do it until they get hot, and it's worse when I'm on the brakes in a turn, and really bad if I brake hard. It sounds like they are metal to metal, but I've pulled them back off and inspected the pads and rotors for damage, cracks, etc.. and they look good. Anyone have any suggestions? It feels and sounds like it's coming from the passenger side. I'm wondering if it's possible that the caliper is sticking a little and making the pads/rotor hot and causing the noise from the heat. Is this possible?? The rotors are still nice and smooth, but it sounds bad, and I can feel it in steering wheel when it grinds.

I still haven't figured this one out.. it seems to stop ok, and nothing looks like it's getting damaged on the pads/rotors.. but it sounds bad...

I would be more prone to say the wheel bearing is flexing. Are all of the pistons free moving when you took them off?

Everything on the front end is "new".. all from Oreilly's... New pads, rotors, hubs, and ball joints.. only thing I haven't replace was the calipers... but they seemed to move freely when I put on the new pads, that's why I left them.. I think the pads are BrakeBest or whatever the cheap brand from Oreilly is... I've always used them, never had any problems till now.. As far as breaking them in...... not really sure on the "proper" procedure, but I didn't do any hard braking after first installing them.. mainly just drive the Jeep on the road to work and home, 8 miles round trip... all under 50 mph..

It sounds to me like you have a caliper sticking a little on that side.

Jason, do you have the rotors? I swap mine out one time on the '99 and had the same problem on the driverside, When I pulled the rotors off I found they were two different sized This caused the rotors to run in a spot it would not normal hit. Just something to check.

I was thinking this also... cuz it doesn't really make the noise until I've driven a few miles... (after they heat up)

I think I threw the old ones out.. I'll have to check.. but I think I did measure the thickness of the new vs the old.. but didn't check any other dimensions...

The size was the difference from teh rotors face tot he wheel mount surface. It just so slight but enough. I blame it on cheap chinese crap.
